On Tuesday 10th Feb, the Sen Boys primary Cricket team played in a Super 8 Gala day competition organised by CSSA. The tournament was held at Jamison Park Penrith. The boys played 3 round robin matches winning these convincingly –
v Tyndale CS 5/91 : 3/62,
v Pacific Hills CS 0/72 : 4/64
v Norwest CC 2/105 : 5/34
They advanced to the Quarter Final where they played Tyndale again and won 2/80 : 4/64.
After advancing to the semi Finals, where they played Norcross CC, they unfortunately had a batting collapse and were all out for 49. They bowled exceptionally well to make the game very competitive in the final overs, only to lose by 2 runs. Final score 8/49 : 4/51
The boys demonstrated exceptional sportsmanship, encouraging one another throughout the games. They were well led throughout the tournament by their captain, Tommy Stanton.
Gala Day Coach
One of Australia’s favourite past times and the ‘sound of summer’ for many of us is cricket. I am very proud to say that this year, WCCS has a team of young cricketers who have quietly gone through a series of matches without fuss, but with great skill and sportsmanship. These boys have beaten teams that have a history of being tough competition with significant run advantages. However, these boys have remained focused and keen for the next match.
Mr Nott has spoken proudly of the way these boys have represented the school. I feel that the famous Don Bradman sums up the boys well in this quote:
“When considering the stature of an athlete or for that matter any person, I set great store in certain qualities which I believe to be essential in addition to skill. They are that the person conducts his or her life with dignity, with integrity, courage, and perhaps most of all, with modesty. These virtues are totally compatible with pride, ambition, and competitiveness.”
Over the next week this team will be playing in the finals of this competition and we want to acknowledge the hard work put in by the team and Mr Nott. Also keep the team in your prayers for safety and health so that they can finish the competition the way they have played each and every game this year.
The finals has not got a set date or opponent as of yet.
Congratulations to Sonia for winning the Senior Girls Tennis Competition today.
Our primary netball and soccer teams finally had the chance to play the Metro Cup Gala Day on Monday. After being rained out twice, the Monday was the day to play.
The netball girls came up against some very good teams. The jr girls played in their pool and and won a couple of games. Well done girls. The snr girls made it through to their semi finals but were knocked out by a very strong Belmont team.
The soccer boys had the chance to play too. Our jr boys enjoyed the opportunity to play in their pool rounds. And our snr boys had to fight hard to get all the way to the finals. They were exhausted after a very big semi but played well. Unfortunately they missed out on the top spot, however, represented WCCS proudly. Well done boys.
Bring in next the IPSSO finals. …. Week 9
