Premier’s Reading Challenge 2013.

Welcome back to another exciting year at WCCS! In the Library this year we have lots of exciting things happening…

Premiers Reading Challenge: The NSW Premier’s Reading Challenge (PRC) aims to encourage in students a love of reading for leisure and pleasure, and to enable students to experience quality literature. It is not a competition but a challenge to each student to read, to read more and to read more widely.

In order to complete the challenge, students need to read:Reading Dragon

Years K-2:  30 books (25 PRC ‘yellow dot’ and 5 free choice)

Years 3-4: 20 books (15 PRC ‘purple dot’ books and 5 free choice)

Years 5-6: 20 books (15 PRC ‘brown dot’ books and 5 free choice)

Years 7-9: 20 books (15 PRC ‘orange dot’ books and 5 free choice)

Book Week / Book Fair 2012

Well it’s all over and we are in the midst of packing up from a week and a half of fun in the library. What I’m wondering, is what you enjoyed about Book Week and the Book Fair? What were the best bits??? We would love to know!!!

Year 4 listening intently to Murray from Scholastic talk about some of the books on the fair!

People Who Help

Our Prep classes have been learning about ‘People Who Help’ in the community. Some of our Year 5 friends have imitated who they might be. Can you guess what important jobs they do in our community???

Olympic fever!

Today in the library we were treated to something very special… Students were lucky enough to come and check out and even try on some REAL Olympic medals.

Brooke Wilkins, pitcher for the Australian Softball team for over a decade, allowed us to experience what it was like to hold Olympic glory in the palm of our hands. In her softball career Brooke Wilkins has won 3 medals, one in each of her appearances at the Olympic games as part of the Australian Softball team.

Students and teachers alike were excited to share in this experience and have their photo taken with these precious trophies.

Special thanks to Mrs Noblett for organsing this memorable experience for us.
