Encourage note writing

Ask your child to explain how they did something to encourage speech.

Read books (don’t worry if you read with an accent!)

Make sure you demonstrate reading from left to right use your finger. Model good reading habits to your child. Let them see you read.

Ask questions about the pictures and what is happening in a book.

Explain words you think are new to your child. Use a dictionary or look on the internet to get a definition.

Encourage storytelling and dramatic play –get involved with your kids and ask questions about the games they play.

When reading, ask your child to tell you what happened in the story this encourages comprehension.
