The GATEway 8 Academic Gala Day is a competition in which students participate in a number of academic challenges based around a theme.
Creative challenges may involve designing and planning a video game, creating an advertisement or movie trailer, participating in drama and sport challenges and composing their own musical composition using instruments and technology.
GATEway is a great opportunity for talented students who perform well academically and would like to compete against similar students from other schools.
William Carey will be sending a Year 7/8 team and a Year 9/10 team in Week 4. Any students who are interested can see Miss Smith in the HSIE staffroom or send her an email.
During Term 2 the 100 word short story competition ran for a second year.
We had even more entries this year from both seniors and juniors.
As with last year, a number of creative, imaginative and well written stories were entered, providing firm proof that it is possible to write a compelling story with only a limited number of words. As a result, the talented entries made the task of choosing a winner quite difficult for the judges.
However, after much deliberation, one winner and one runner up was chosen to receive a prize.
Winner – Nathaniel W (Year 12)
Runner- up – Felise L (Year 9)
Below is the video that was played at the end of the term containing the winning entry.
