Today was full so many great things. After Library we met our new hermit crabs! After observing them for a little while we decided on the names Bananas and Ninja Digger. Bananas is our purple crab, named after her love of climbing. We found her at the top of the tree after 5 minutes in the tank! Nina Digger is our blue crab, named after his efforts to hide from Miss Grinsell within minutes of arriving in 3G. Miss Grinsell spent 5 minutes digging up the sand in the tank trying to find him! We love them already!
We’ve worked so hard this Term in English lessons. Today we had another Karate ceremony and celebrated the great achievements everyone has made. We can’t wait to work towards our new goals next Term!
We did something a little different for Art this afternoon. We first designed posters with our name in the middle. We then set them up around the room ready for a wonderful time of compliment sharing. Half the class sat in front of their posters while the others went around and wrote kind things on them. It was so hard not to turn around and look at our poster while our friends we writing on them! We then swapped over so everyone had a turn of having their poster filled with kind words. It was a beautiful way to wrap up a wonderful half year together! Bring on an exciting Term 3!
3G have had a wonderful 6 months together! We decided it would be a good idea to start thinking about how we could improve our learning environment for the next 6 months of being a class family. We took to brainstorming the successes we’ve had and started making suggestions for next Term. Miss Grinsell pointed out elements of the room that had to stay where they are and told us that everything else is up for negotiation. We were all very engaged in the design process and will continue to investigate this week and make some big decisions. We did some research to see what has worked for other schools and found some very cool ideas!
Miss Grinsell will post some of our suggestions when they are ready.
This morning during Maths, some students got to try and beat their fidget spinners! We used them to spin and tried to write as many times tables answers as possible before they stopped. It was a lot of fun! You can use your fidget spinner at home to help you develop the speed of your answers when working with times tables. Get Mum and Dad to ask you some questions and see how many you can answer before your spinner stops. Our current record is 31 times tables answered!
It’s fun when we use what we love to help us learn!
Last week for homework we prepared for our Reader’s Theatre performances. Here is a video showing each of the groups showcasing their scripts. It was a lot of fun watching the wonderful stories. Sorry the quality of the video isn’t great…hopefully you can hear the lines! Enjoy!
On Friday afternoon, 3G visited 7A in a high school science room. They set up microscopes and we spent time learning about different living things. We LOVED spending time learning from the high school students and can’t wait to visit again soon.
Here is the homework video for week 8. Watch out for some surprise guests!
We did an amazing job in groups today getting ready for next Friday’s Reader’s Theatre performances. We can’t wait to watch all the awesome items and enjoy the stories.
3G have been getting really creative with the iPads. We love app smashing (using two or more apps to create projects and complete tasks). Today we had the opportunity to use any apps we liked and smash them together to create awesome content. We worked in pairs to work on projects to share our knowledge about living and non living things. We had so many creative ideas about which apps would work well together. We will spend more time on the projects tomorrow and look forward to sharing the finished products with everyone soon! Two of the groups made decided to combine Touchcast (green screen app) with PicKids to share their knowledge. Both projects are still works in progress but give a good idea of how apps can be combined so creatively!
Earlier in the week we app smashed PicKids and ShadowPuppet and made a class presentation about ‘good’ and ‘bad’ characters. We are learning to analyse characters using the STEAL method (looking at their speech, thoughts, emotions, actions and looks),
Here are some photos of us planning and getting creative!
REMINDER: Tomorrow is Market Day and a MUFTI DAY! You will get your tokens in the morning. We are also performing at assembly tomorrow afternoon which starts at 2pm.
We are hearing about so many awesome books! Book Club is a highlight of our week!
The 3G Book Club has been a wonderful success! We are creating a section of our room with QR code links to all the reviews made by 3G kids. We love scanning them and enjoying the reviews our friends have created. We are going to build up this area of the classroom to help each other learn about new books. We love reading and we love the Book Review Beach!
